Everyone is aware of, or in the light of recent events has become aware of, the power of Facebooks Advertising and Targeting system. Within the power of this targeting and data mining system, we have learned how businesses have used this information in a negative manner. According to Facebook, the past few weeks shed light on some of the important work they still need to do to protect people’s information and give them more control over their data. What happened with Cambridge Analytica was a breach of Facebook’s trust. More importantly, it was a breach of the trust people place in Facebook to protect their data when they share it. Since then, Facebook has shared steps they are taking to put stronger protections in place to prevent future abuse. Facebook is committed to ensuring people feel safe using their platforms.

Facebook is also committed to the businesses they serve. This month, Facebook introduced more ways to drive retail sales, kicked off Facebook Community Boost in St. Louis, celebrated International Women’s Day and shared how they’re building connections for the future through video, messaging and improved access to internet at Mobile World Congress.
